Wren, a man of awkward stature and a quiet and shy disposition, seemed fated (or maybe cursed) to draw pokemon of wholly gregarious and loud personalities. He fretted and claimed they would be the cause of his red hair turning white, but he never thought of ever turning his pokemon away. Crash was certainly challenging him, though.

The Phanpy was sweet, but loud, troublesome, and destructive; he would only grow bigger, and while Wren already fretted over what disasters the pokemon would get him into, he was also vital to the fossil searching aspect of Wren’s research. The pokemon could crash through rocks and lifts things far out of Wren’s capabilities, and had a keen sense of smell that the researcher hoped to train to seek out fossils from other types of rocks. They had a lot of work to do before then, however, but the training would begin today.

Wren and Crash were out in the field. It was a literal field full of heaps of rocks of various sizes and amounts. Wren selected a lone boulder—nothing too big—and pointed a wiry finger at it. ”Go on and use tackle, Crash!” He coached. With gusto the little blue Pokemon went barreling into the rock which exploded in a finer spray of stones. He came out the other end unscathed and looking far too sprightly and peppy. The day would be long but Crash looked more than up for it.

One would never guess it due to Meridian’s poor level, but she and Wren had been together through the last few years of his schooling and his following internships. His busy schedule had been part of the reason why the feebas was never trained, but only part; Wren had a terrible fear of battling that stemmed from the lack of knowing how. With practice, or maybe a coach, he would likely become more comfortable, but first someone would have to get him to actually do it. Meridian, an eager fish and go-getter by nature, often got him into quite the pickle, but Wren typically fled from battles rather than facing them, but finally he was beginning to relent; they would begin training, then maybe, Wren would find someone to help him learn how to properly battle.

Wren stood alongside the bank to the river while Meridian floated at the ready just inside it. Meridian’s list of known moves was a sorry thing so they instead decided to work on her endurance and agility against the current of the nearby rapids. ”Whenever you’re ready, love.” He coached his fish and long-time partner. Meridian, lateral muscles wiggling, set off against the current to head upstream with Wren walking along the bank every step of the way.
